When: Saturday May 20 and Sunday May 21 Times: 10am-5pm, with an hour lunch break. Where: Clinton Cameo Studios, 307 W 43rd Street in Midtown Manhattan. Cost: $275. Stirring up rebellion and transgression in clown mode With all the current rules and restrictions, maybe you feel the clown’s anarchic spirit dwindling within you. Perhaps you’ve even quelled that rebellious and nonconformist part of you and have passed into resignation mode. But as clowns, it is our role to be provocative; question the status quo, voice our discontent, deflate the arrogance of the powerful, mock absurd regulations, be irreverent, insolent, and bold enough to poke fun at anything and everything. In this workshop, we will engage in foolishly disrespectful activities. You’ll be invited to risk severe clown punishment to stand for the underdog and incite them to resist. You’ll explore the fun of being righteously angry, of lodging a complaint, of making up ridiculous laws and of parodying authority figures (behind their backs). And be guided on how to do this in a way that inspires others to recognize their conventionality and dare to be different. Rebel Clown will challenge and stretch your boundaries, give you ample opportunities to fully enjoy your rebellious spirit and inspire you to let your clown find creative ways to disrupt the status quo. www.clowngym.com/intensives

CLOWN CONFLICTS
How to get clown mileage from your daily struggles At the heart of every hilarious clown routine lies a conflict: rivalry, misunderstandings, physical ineptitude, invasions of personal space, personality clashes, split emotions, outbursts, competition for the limelight, trouble with the boss, etc. The conflicts clowns struggle with aren't unknown to us, but their attitude towards them, and the playful extremes to which they take them, are certainly less common. As with everything else, clowns add to the mix their enjoyment of the moment. They'll turn any kind of conflict into an opportunity to demonstrate their talent for making things worse before making them better. In this workshop, we'll explore the struggles of our precarious human existence from a clown perspective, highlighting our sublime stupidity and celebrating our incredible inventiveness. Over the course of 4 weeks, you'll be invited to lose control over your vying emotions, sacred notions, unfriendly attitudes, wayward limbs and changeable environment. You'll be guided on how to avoid resolving the conflicts until you've got all the comic mileage out of them you can, and encouraged to find ever more ingenious ways to settle the dispute or conclude the action. This workshop requires a basic level of clown and a willingness to reveal the hilarious truth of your own imperfection and life's complexity. -

A detonator to release, stimulate and enhance your clowning abilities. A genuine catalyst for your clown.
Are you in need of help? Motivation? Inspiration? A kick up the arse? Do you want to work with Caroline but can't find a workshop that suits your timetable? Would you like to receive some personalised laser-coaching, tailored to your clown needs or desires? Do you have an idea you'd like to develop?Take a Clown Catalyst Online clown coaching sessions, absolutely personalized and adapted to any level. What to expect Honest feedback, guidance in the areas you need to work on, an eagle eye for details and of course, fun.
The sessions will be very much like a clown class but 100% focused on YOU and your needs. She will ask you to improvise, give you ideas and feedback, and work with the material you have prepared between sessions.
*The session can be recorded for your exclusive and personal use only. This is a great way to re-inforce the learning process, see for yourself what works and remember the points covered. Commitment Caroline recommends you commit to 4 sessions over a 4 week period. Each session will be 1h. You'll agree on a day and time that suits. Obviously, if you have an emergency or know at least 48hs in advance that you won't be able to make the session, it can be re-scheduled.
Your homework (if you want it) will be to prepare a sketch around an idea she gives you or your own ideas (you decide). You will have to send her the video of your improvisation 24hs before the next programmed session.
Requirements
- a laptop with a camera or, failing that, a tablet with a camera (if you have an external webcam that sends a higher quality image than the computer’s camera, all the better).
- internet connection
- a free account on Zoom.us
- a private space to work in. Ideally, a clear working area of approximately 2 x 2 meters that is within the viewing angle of the camera. Outside that area, you should have some space at least on one side so that you can make exits and entrances into the area (that is, you can “leave camera” at least on one side) . Don’t worry about curtains, sofas, shelves with things on them, etc in the background … these can often be used advantageously during the class ;o)
- adequate lighting (frontal) so that I can see you well (please avoid bright lights behind you, such as windows, etc)

Looking for a director for your clown number or show?
Caroline offers online direction sessions (with the possibility of finishing the piece in-person before the show's premiere). She'll help you develop an idea, create scenes that are playful, logical and funny, and reach your deadline on time! The creation process
Caroline will work with you on defining the central idea for your number or show: the who, what and why from which all other ideas can emerge with ease. She'll then place at your service her vast experience both in clown creation and inspiring hilarious improvisations to guide you towards a finished product. Caroline believes that creation processes should be fun. She'll get you to play; and use your imagination, your innate and acquired talents and the things that truly move you. It'll be an interesting journey that will require your commitment to do the work, but will not expect more of you than you can give. What to expect
Each session lasts 1 hour. You will also be given assignments to prepare before the following session; such as improvising a scene, writing the script, rehearsing the dialogue or action, finding props or pieces of music, etc. The sessions will be recorded for your exclusive and private use. This is an important tool that will allow you to see for yourself what works, and remember the action that was blocked during the session. In addition, it will help you remember and script any dialogue. You will be asked to download these videos within 48hs and upload them to a Drive file you have shared with Caroline. These files will need to be titled with the session number and information that will make their content easily identifiable.Your commitment
You will be asked to commit to and pay for at least the first 4 sessions, which Caroline recommends be held over a period of 4 consecutive weeks. The day and time that best suits you both will be agreed upon together. Clown numbers can usually be created in 4 to 8 sessions. Clown shows may take between 12 and 20 sessions to complete (depending on the time you give to rehearsal between the sessions). If you have an emergency or notify at least 72 hours in advance that you will not be able to attend the session, the date can be changed without charge.Requirements
